This refers to enlargement of the thyroid gland resulting in swelling in the front part of the neck. 
Deficiency or increase in iodine content of food items. Thyroid tumours. Due to side effects of certain Medicines. In Pregnancy Due to Hormonal imbalance. 
Signs & Symptoms 
These depend on the cause and the type of goitre. The thyroid gland in such cases may be functioning less than normal or more than normal. The goitre in many cases due to its large size, may produce problems in speech, respiration and swallowing of food, and Hormonal imbalance.




  1. Old rice should be used once a day in food.
  2. Cucumber is also good for goitre patients, 100 gm of it can be consumed daily as salad.
  3. Kanchanara Guggulu or Arogyavardhini vati can be taken


Pathya (Food to be Taken) 
One who is effected with Goitre should consume plenty of the following foods: Old rice, barley, drumstick, cucumber, sugarcane juice, milk & milk products.

Apathya (Food to be Avoided) 
Patient should refrain from heavy foods such as meats or breads that are more difficult to swallow, and will cause pain. Also, beverages such as coffee, alcoholic drinks, and sodas should be avoided, as well as foods with excess salt and sugar in them. Sugar and salt can make a person cough, and coughing while inflicted with goitre can be painful. In addition, caffeinated substances can aggravate a viral infection in the throat.

Shodhana Karma : 
Sutra Neti , Jal Neti, Kunjal.


  1. Tadasana.
  2. Matsyasana.
  3. Trikonasana.
  4. Halasana.
  5. Bhujangasana.
  6. Sarvanagasana.
  7. Simhasana.
  8. Marjariasana.
  9. Karnapeedasana.


Anuloma-Viloma, Bhramari , Bhastrika, Kapalbhati & Ujjayi.

Practice of Jalandhar Bandha is very effective.
