Urinary calculus is commonly known as kidney stones.In Ayurvedic literature it is referred as Mutrashmari. Mutra means urine, Ashmari means stone. It is a troublesome complaint which may become an emergency at any point of time. Though it is a structural condition, Ayurveda offers varieties of remedies and treatment regimen. Sudden pain in the right or left lower abdomen(flanks) which radiates from back to front, Pain during urination, Burning sensation during urination Pain in the bladder and urethra, Reduced urine output, Yellow or reddish-yellow colored urine, Lethargy, vomiting-sensation, headache, bodyache etc.



1. Drink plenty of clean and fresh water to decrease the high saturations of minerals in urine and crystal formation.
2. Protein in excessive amounts causes problems and thus should be taken to meet the recommended requirements.
3. Salt is beneficial because it increases water consumption and prevents the formation of silicate, magnesium and phosphate based crystals.
4. Ensure that a proper balance level of phosphorous, calcium and magnesium is maintained in your diet.
5. Make sure to have vitamin A in your diet.
6. Eat oats to limit or remove silicate calculi.
7. Gokshura is a highly effective herb for kidneys. It is a rejuvenator of kidney and helps to maintain effective functions of urine. It reduces renal discomfort and can be used for problems like kidney dysfunction, dysuria and urolithiasis. It can also be used as a dietary supplement to improve the urine flow. It also soothes the urinary tract membrane and inhibits oxalate production.
8. The decoction prepared out of bark of henna plant by boiling one part of the bark in 20 parts of water and reduced to one fourth is given in doses of 15-20 ml twice a day.
9. One cup of radish juice with one spoon of honey is very effective in curing ashmari.
10. Kulatha kashaya is also very good in treating urinary calculi.
